Oil prices dip as traders eye dollar and China

Oil prices fell for the third day due to worries about weak demand in China and a stronger US dollar. Brent crude is nearing $84 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate is around $81.

The US dollar's rise was influenced by the attempted assassination of US presidential candidate Donald Trump. Despite OPEC+ supply cuts and possible US interest-rate cuts boosting oil earlier this year, China's slowing growth remains a major concern.

Analysts believe China's Third Plenum won't bring any major policy changes. Volatility in oil prices is at its lowest since 2015.

University caught in chip war between US and China

Eindhoven University of Technology, close to ASML’s headquarters, is caught in the US-China chip war. The US questions the high number of Chinese students at the university, a key talent source for ASML.

The Netherlands faces pressure from the US to limit China’s access to chip-making technology. The university works with security services to monitor foreign students and professors.

ASML invested €80 million in the university to train future employees. Espionage concerns rise as China advances in chip technology, with the Dutch government considering further restrictions.

Verizon plans to sell thousands of towers

Verizon, the top US wireless carrier, is thinking about selling 5,000 to 6,000 mobile-phone towers.

This sale could bring in over $3 billion. Verizon has hired advisers to find interested buyers, though there's no certainty of a sale. In 2015, Verizon sold the rights to 11,000 towers to American Tower Corp for $5 billion.

Telecom companies sometimes sell towers to raise cash, like AT&T did in 2013. Potential buyers for Verizon’s towers include infrastructure firms and strategic investors.
